Artetica lat. artsus = arto, articolazione limb, articulation

Artetica is my way of experiencing human relationships in their complexity, in that space which exists between individual emancipation and preserving the ways we socialize through ritual and tradition.

The art of embroidery has always been an exercise in patience through slow, repeated gestures, but also a means of socializing and female solidarity. My childhood memories are interwoven with neighborhood courtyards crowded with succulent plants and flowering bougainvillea, with the chattering of women of all ages, often connected through intricate family relations, all gathered to embroider. To them I owe a part of my own emotional upbringing that I share with my generation of young women who have left Italy’s deep South in search of new experiences and personal exchanges, as befitting the natural inclination of a seafaring people.

pane e rossetto bread and lipstick

Bread and Lipstick is a snapshot of an entire universe, a feminine universe traced between two extremes of a continuous line: the need for physical and existential survival. Nurturing the body and defining the self. It’s not a political manifesto or a hostile takeover. Do we still need to protest? Instead we can simply and fully take into our own two hands that which has always been ours — to live our lives, earn our daily bread, and then a kiss?

This is the space for those who feel that brain, heart and opposable thumb can coexist into the same personality. This is the space for those who think that traditions and the art of one's ancestors make sense in the future. This is the space for those for whom time really is the most valuable asset, the secret ingredient, the only true creator of beauty.
